Privacy Policy
Last updated: 7 August 2026
Small House Journey is operated from England and is the data controller for personal information collected through this website. This policy explains what we collect, why we use it, who may receive it, how long it is kept and the choices available to you.
If you have a privacy question or want to exercise a data protection right, please use our contact form.
Information you provide
Contact form
When you contact us, we collect your name, email address, chosen topic and message. You may also provide the URL of a relevant page. Please do not include passwords, payment details, health information or other sensitive personal information unless it is genuinely necessary.
The form is provided through Contact Form 7. Submissions are processed by this website and sent to a private mailbox used by Small House Journey. Contact Form 7 is not configured to save submitted messages in the WordPress database. Contact details are not added to a newsletter or marketing list.
Technical information
Our web host and content-delivery services receive ordinary server-request information when pages and files are delivered. This can include your IP address, browser and device information, the requested page, referring page, and the date and time. We use this information to operate, secure and troubleshoot the website.
Optional analytics
With your permission, the site uses Google Analytics technology to understand which pages are useful and how visitors use the site. The Google tag is blocked until you select Accept on the consent banner. If you select Deny, the tag remains blocked.
Analytics information may include page views, interactions, browser and device details, and approximate location. We do not intentionally send the contents of contact-form messages to Google Analytics. Google explains how it handles Analytics data in its data safeguards guidance and Privacy Policy.
Why we use information
- Enquiries, corrections and submissions: to read, assess and, where appropriate, respond. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in communicating with readers, correcting material errors and operating the website.
- Privacy and legal requests: to meet legal obligations and keep any evidence reasonably needed to show how a request was handled.
- Website delivery and security: to serve pages, prevent abuse, diagnose faults and protect the site. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure and reliable website.
- Optional analytics: only with your consent. You may refuse or withdraw that consent without losing access to the site’s ordinary content.
We do not use contact-form information for automated decision-making or direct marketing.
Cookies and consent choices
The site may use strictly necessary storage to remember your privacy choice and support security or core functionality. The consent preference may be retained for up to 12 months so that the banner does not appear on every visit.
Optional analytics is disabled until you consent. You can accept, deny or change your choice at any time by using the Manage consent control displayed on the site. Where supported, the site also respects Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals.
Who may receive information
Personal information is accessed only where necessary by the site operator and service providers used to run the website. Relevant provider categories are:
- the website host and content-delivery provider;
- the private email provider that receives contact-form messages; and
- Google, only when optional analytics consent has been given.
Contact Form 7 processes the form on this WordPress installation; its developer does not receive your submissions merely because the plugin is used. We do not sell or rent personal information.
International processing
Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where UK data protection law requires it, transfers must be covered by an adequacy regulation or appropriate safeguards. You may ask for more information about the providers and safeguards relevant to your data through the contact form.
How long we keep information
- Contact messages: reviewed and deleted when no longer needed. The normal review point is 12 months after the last meaningful contact. A message may be kept longer where reasonably necessary to meet a legal obligation or establish, exercise or defend a legal claim.
- Server and security records: retained only for the period needed for hosting, security, fault diagnosis and abuse prevention, subject to the service provider’s operational schedule.
- Analytics information: retained according to the settings and policies applying to the connected Google service, and reviewed as part of the site’s analytics configuration.
- Consent preference: retained for up to 12 months unless you change it sooner.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you rights to access, correct or erase your personal information; restrict or object to its use; receive information in a portable form; and withdraw consent. These rights are not absolute in every case.
To make a request, use the contact form and choose Privacy request. We may need enough information to confirm your identity and locate the relevant records.
You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
